Sitting Around

Cover Art

Art Development

I originally came up with this jingle while volunteering for CEN8. I produced the cover art much later when I started to explore the world of music libraries in the aftermath of finishing my MA. The cover art process itself was relatively straightfoward. Check out the YouTube video below to see the full design process in action!

  1. Photo shoot (00:07) - I put a chair in my brother's bedroom (he's at university so he can't get annoyed at me for messing around in there) and took several pictures of it.
  2. Editing (00:40) - I chose my favourite picture with the best framing and lighting. I then used the Pixlr app to edit the photo into something more colourful and interesting.
  3. Border Experiments (00:38) - I experimented with adding borders to the edited design.
  4. Text experiments (00:48) - I experimented with text layout and font.
  5. Final Designs (01:07) - I narrowed my collection of designs down to 2 final designs, one with a white border and another with a black border.
  6. Feedback (01:29) - Deciding on the final design was difficult, so I turned to my friends and family for feedback. Unfortunately, responses were generally mixed, with several people experiencing the same difficulties as me. In the end I chose and improved the design with the black border because it made the white text stand out better.
